Hyperpigmentation is the number one concern among majority of clients, especially acne prone skin. Those dark patches are a result of overproduction of melanin and seems more predominant in skin of color. Hyperpigmentation is usually more severe in skin of color unfortunately. Another not so nice word is Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation. This happens after skin has been irritated or injured. This is mostly caused by acne, bug bites, skin picking, burns to name a few.
The sun is also a major cause of hyperpigmentation. The obvious answer is wearing SPF daily when in the sun. The sun will increase melanin production. Its essential!
There is no one-size-fits-all routine in skincare, but universally speaking, not picking skin while experiencing acne is key! The cascade of dark spots will certainly take over if picking is always on the menu.
